The Asian Development Bank (ADB), using the fund from the Japanese Government, has worked with the Ministries of Planning and Investment and Home Affairs on the 2009 Public Policy Training Program for Vietnamese officials.
Opening the training course on Monday, ADB Country DirectorAyumi Konishi stressed the need to update civil servants with latest knowledge and skills to deal with new challenges as Việt Nam is becoming a middle-income country and its government plays an increasingly important role.
More than 300 senior and intermediate officials will attend this year’s training courses to get more qualified in analyzing and outlining policy reforms. The program also helps improve officials’ capacity in enforcing state policies.
According to ADB, the training courses are parts of the Bank’s Regional Technical Assistance for Public Policy Training Program 2007-2010, worth of US $18 million, implemented in Cambodia, Laos and Việt Nam.
Initiated in Việt Nam in 2007, the program will be introduced to Cambodia and Laos this year.
Over the past two years, 405 Vietnamese civil servants have undergone the training courses and the figure will rise to 1,100 by the end of this year./.
