The Lao government licensed more than 40 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects with total capital exceeding 1 billion USD in the first half of the 2008-2009 fiscal year, reported the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
In the 2007-2008 fiscal year, the country attracted 161 FDI projects valued at 650 million USD.
Vietnam is the leading foreign investor in Laos, followed up by Thailand and China, said the Ministry.
In late 2008, the Long Thanh Golf Company of Vietnam started work on a 1 billion USD project to build a golf course and a luxury hotel in the country’s capital Vientiane./.
