A high-level delegation of the General Politics Department of the Vietnam People’s Army arrived in Vientiane on March 30, beginning a five-day visit to Laos.
On, the same day, the delegation, which is led by General Le Anh Dung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Director of the department, held talks with a delegation of the General Politics Department of the Lao People’s Army, headed by his Lao counterpart Lieutenant General Sengnouane Sayalath.
The two sides exchanged views on political and ideological works in armed forces as well as world and regional issues of mutual concerns.
The Lao side highly valued Vietnam’s activities to help promote the 60th anniversary of the Lao People’s Army, describing them as great contributions to boosting the special relations between the two Parties, people and armies.
The two sides affirmed that they have effectively conducted cooperation agreements within the protocol between the two defence ministries signed in Vientiane in February.
They held refresher courses, sent experts to help Laos, donated technical facilities, searched and repatriated Vietnamese soldiers and experts’ remains to Vietnam and held numerous visits and cultural exchanges.
The Vietnamese side said they was ready to receive Lao officers for training and will send experts to help build a military television programme and install software for library management.
In 2009, a Lao military art troupe will make a tour of Vietnam to mark the 65th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 50th anniversary of opening the Truong Son trail./.
