The Republic of Korea (RoK) increased its assistance to developing countries last year as part of its effort to enhance economic cooperation and the national image, Yonhap News Agency reported on Mar. 31.
A report by the nation's Ministry of Strategy and Finance said the nation's official development assistance (ODA) of 2008 rose 14 percent from a year before to top a record high of 797 million USD.
The assistance provided by the OECD members is known to be used for road, port, and other social services infrastructure construction in developing countries, Yonhap said.
The RoK ranked 19th last year among the member countries of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), according to the ministry./.
