It is reported that PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his spouse will attend the Boao Forum for Asia 2009 held in China’s Hainan, visit Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau on April 17-21.
Vietnam is one of the founders of the Forum and has attended the event at the Deputy PM level three times in 2001, 2002, and 2003.
PM Nguyen Tan Dung will appear at the Forum 2009 themed “Asia: Managing Beyond Crisis,” where he can exchange his views with other leaders about solutions for international cooperation to cope with the crisis.
Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau are China’s localities which are maintaining close relations with Vietnam in terms of economics, trade and tourism. Especially, Hong Kong is one of the country’s leading partners.
The Government chief’s visits to these localities are expected to help boost their comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam.
The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), is a non-governmental, not-for-profit international organization modeled after the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
It is a prestigious forum for leaders in government, business and academia in Asia and other continents to share visions on the most pressing issues in this dynamic region and the world at large.
The Forum is committed to promoting regional economic integration and bringing Asian countries even closer to their development goals. Initiated in 1998 by Fidel V. Ramos, former President of the Philippines, Bob Hawke, former Prime Minister of Australia, and Morihiro Hosokawa, former Prime Minister of Japan, the BFA was formally inaugurated in February 2001.
The BFA holds a high-level annual forum for government, business, experts, and scholars at Boao, with the focus of discussion on economics, integration, cooperation, society, and environment.
In addition to its annual meeting, the BFA also sponsors other forums and meetings related to Asian issues.
