Germany's inflation rate was expected to rise 0.2 percent in August from minus 0.5 percent in July 2009, statistics showed Thursday.
But the rate remained unchanged compared with a year earlier due to the rising price of liquid fuel and motor fuels, according to German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis)'s preliminary data.
The consumer price index for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, was expected to remain unchanged in August from August 2008, Destatis said.
Final results for the inflation rate in August will be released in September.
