The visit made by State President Nguyen Minh Triet to Chile aims at clarifying Viet Nam’s determination to promote the current bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership level and discuss ways for the enforcement of the agreements reached by the two sides’ leaders.

State President Nguyen Minh Triet makes his first Head of State visit to Chile

State President Triet and his entourage arrived in Santiago, Chile, yesterday afternoon (local time) for his first visit to the Latin American country at the invitation of Chilean President Michelle Bachelet.
The official reception given to the Vietnamese State leader is scheduled today and then President Triet will hold talks with his counterpart Michelle Bachelet.
Visiting the Vietnamese Embassy in Santiago on Tuesday, State President Triet praised staff of the Embassy for fulfilling their tasks and asked them to continue playing a more active role in consolidating and enhancing the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Chile.
Viet Nam and Chile set up diplomatic relationship in 1971. The bilateral relations have been strongly fueled through regular exchange of high-ranking visits from both sides. During the Vietnamese Party leader Nong Duc Manh’s visit to Chile in May 2007, the two countries reached a joint statement on the framework of comprehensive partnership.
Chile is among the first countries that recognize Vietnam’s market economy and has actively supported the Southeast Asian country on international forums.
