The Chilean and Vietnamese delegations started the fourth round of free trade negotiations here on Monday.
The two delegations were led by Nguyen Duy Khien, director general of trade policy for American department of Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Rodrigo Contreras, director of international economic affairs of the Chilean Foreign Ministry.
"At this stage, we expect to move ahead on the issues related to the first negotiation stage", the Chilean authorities said.
Vietnam is a market of great potential and has attracted a large amount of foreign investments. In the period of 2000-2006, the bilateral trade between Vietnam and Chile has enjoyed a rapid expansion.
"The agreement will open up many opportunities for Chilean products to enter the Vietnamese market as the two economies are complementary", Contreras said.
With the free trade negotiations, Chile will continue enhancing its commercial strategy in Asia, mainly with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries, to build itself into a bridge of inter-regional trade.
