Laos and China held a conference on Sharing Experience of the People’s Republic of China for the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Accession at Vientiane’s Lao Plaza Hotel on 11 February.
The objective of the meeting was to discuss and share experiences in the preparation of the People’s Republic of China for WTO accession in areas of improving legislations, negotiation strategy to participate in the WTO and the implementation of WTO obligations.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith said that the Lao PDR had made preparations in a hope to become a WTO member in 2010, especially preparedness processes involving with law, juristic actions, regulations and negotiation.
Dr Thongloun who is also Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the improvement of juristic acts to be in line with the international principles as well as WTO convention, which is a decisive factor of becoming a WTO member. On the other hand, it also constitutes a strong mechanism of management for the state.
It will also lay a foundation for developing transparent performances of government officials and facilitating business sector.
In addition, the meeting gave an opportunity for participants to share experiences on economic policies.
Dr Zhang Xiengchen supported the Lao PDR to become a WTO member at the 6th meeting.
The meeting was co-chaired by Dr Thongloun who in charge of the Lao National Committee for Economic Integration and the Vice Permanent Representative of China to the WTO, Dr. Zhang Xiengchen./.
