In his meeting with Vietnamese Deputy PM Nguyen Sinh Hung in the coastal city of Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa Province, on April 8, Mr. Juan Jose Daboub, who is there for the 14th ASEAN Finance Ministers’ Meeting, evaluated that Southeast Asia and Vietnam have effectively settled global economic crisis and drawn many lessons for their economic development.
However, the WB senior official asserted that sustainable development requires each and every country to deepen their regional and international integration, balance growth targets and energy use, and protect environment.
Deputy PM Nguyen Sinh Hung thanked the WB for supporting and consulting Vietnam’s development and sending many experienced experts here to help deal with the economy’s internal issues, especially macro-finance and corporate restructuring.
“Assistance from the WB has brought about positive results in upgrading infrastructure, capital construction, health, education and poverty reduction. The bank has always taken the lead in connecting international financial organizations and donors for Vietnam,” said the Deputy PM.
Deputy PM Hung informed that, in 2010, Vietnam will consult international organizations about its 10-year strategy (2011-2020) and a 5-year plan (2011-2015) on national socio-economic development.
He took the case to ask the WB to further assist Vietnam in combating climate change and sea level rise. /
