Fruit exporters look to EU and US markets
In recent years, besides traditional markets in Asia, Vietnamese exporters have to surmount numerous barriers to bring domestic fruits into other destinations like the EU and US.

Better storage and shorter time of delivery are necessary for Vietnam’s fruits to penetrate into the US and EU markets

Vietnam’s fruits and vegetables have been shipped to 50 countries and territories, bringing about US $439 million of turnover in 2009.
According to the Food Agriculture Organization (FAO), the EU and US are the two largest fruit importers in the world.
To enter these markets, Vietnam’s fruits have to overcome various barriers regarding quality, food hygiene, competition and distance of delivery.
Editor-in-chief of Asia Fruit magazine John Hey suggested Vietnam focus on storing products and cutting time of delivery.
According to Mr. John Hey, there are wide doors for Vietnam’s fruits to penetrate into the EU and US, especially such tropicalfruits which can be harvested all year around and much preferred by consumers like blue dragon and grapefruit .
He also proposed Vietnam meet high quality and quantity standards by establishing mass production sites./.
