A conference to promote investment in central Vietnam’s key economic region will be held on June 25-26 in Hoi An town of the central province of Quang Nam.

At a press briefing in Hanoi on June 18, the organising board said the conference aims to attract domestic and foreign investments in economics, tourism and infrastructure projects.
The head of the Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Foreign Investment Department, Do Nhat Hoang, said the region, which includes Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh provinces, plays a crucial role in the country’s socio-economic development strategy.
Therefore, he said, the government, ministries, relevant agencies and the localities are seeking ways to speed up its development.
In the first quarter of this year, the region attracted 377 projects with a total registered capital of nearly 14.4 billion USD.
The amount of FDI investment in the region over the 2007-2009 period has reached a record 11.3 billion USD, quadruple the figure of the 1988-2006 period. According to experts, FDI inflow will continue to rise in the next few years./.
