Norwegian businesses pledged to provide some US $100-150 million by this year’s end for Vietnam to reduce gas emissions caused by deforestation, protect bio-diversity and water sources, and improve local people’s living standard.
The northern province of Son La and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) agreed on a Norway-funded project to build a solid waste treatment facility in Son La City.
The US $8 million project aims at collecting and processing organic waste to make micro-organic fertilizers.
The National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and Norway-based Det Norske Veritas signed a Memorandum of Understanding for provision of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Vietnam to replace traditional materials.
Ho Chi Minh City-based Ben Thanh Group and Sapa Group agreed to expand the productivity of their joint aluminum project to some 80,000-100,000 tons/year.
Besides this US $13.6-million project with high-quality aluminum products, the two groups planned to develop a factory churning out industrial and construction materials in the time to come.
Bien Xanh Shipbuilding Company and Umoe Mandal were of the same mind about a ship-building joint-venture in Vietnam, focusing on modern technology and materials, passenger ferries, fishing and rescue ships, and other composite products.
Vietnamese and Norwegian partners also exchanged information for future investment and cooperation in other areas like energy, logistics and aqua-culture.
