Brazil's grain production to rise 10.5 percent in 2010
Brazil's grain production in 2010 will rise 10.5 percent compared to last year. the country's Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) announced Thursday.
According to the IBGE, the grain production will reach 148 million tons this year. The record-high number surpassed the output of 146 million tons in 2008.
The production of soybeans and corn is expected to rise 20.7 percent and 7 percent respectively, while the rice is expected to fall 10.2 percent. The three kinds of crops mentioned above accounted for 91 percent of Brazil's grain production.
According to the IBGE, the grain production is expected to rise in many parts of Brazil. The southern region is to have the largest output of grain in 2010 with 63.3 million tons, followed by the midwestern region with 51.7 million tons.
Among the 25 kinds of crops registered in the IBGE, the production of 18 kinds is expected to rise this year including oats, coffee, wheat, and sugarcane. The production of seven kinds of crops is expected to fall, including peanuts and beans./.
