France's consumer prices index (CPI) registered a month-on-month rise of 0.3 percent in April following a March increase of 0.8 percent, national statistics bureau Insee said Thursday.
The lower CPI increase was due to slower growth in energy prices, which registered a 1.3-percent increase in April compared with 4 percent in March.
Costs of manufactured goods inched up by 0.6 percent, with clothing and shoes prices up 3.2 percent over the period, "mostly due to the gradual end of winter sales," according to Insee.
In April, service prices, including transportation and tourism, rose by 0.1 percent. Food prices recorded a slight rise of 0.2 percent but those of fresh products fell by 2 percent.
On a yearly basis, the country's prices index rose by 2.1 percent./.
