Japan undertakes railway project in Vietnam

The Japanese government, Keihan Electric Railway Co., and other businesses will form a public-private partnership to undertake a railway project in Vietnam , according to the Nikkei.
The Nikkei was quoted as saying that Japan has reached basic agreements with Vietnam on its participation in building a 35km railway that will connect Hanoi with a high-tech industrial park.
Keihan Electric Railway will invest in the entity supervising the project while feasibility studies for the project, which are expected to cost 270 billion yen, will be conducted by Nomura Research Institute Ltd. and others.
The Japanese companies will also invest in railcars, signal systems, as well as operations.
The project is expected to kick off in 2015 and put into service in the 2019-2022 period.
According to the Nikkei, the undertakings are expected to be eligible for funds under Japan 's official development assistance program. The participating Japanese companies will tap loans from JICA and Japan Bank for International Cooperation./.
