Deputy PM Truong Vinh Trong on Monday held talks with the Vice President of the Cuban Council of State, Gladys Bejerano Portela, in Havana, to seek new fields for bilateral cooperation.

At the talks, as part of Deputy PM Trong’s official visit to Cuba from June 11-14, the two leaders agreed that experiencing hardships and challenges, the relationship between Viet Nam and Cuba has become an invaluable treasure of the two nations.
Deputy PM Trong affirmed Viet Nam’s consistent stance of supporting Cuba’s revolutionary cause and striving for all-around development of bilateral ties with Cuba on the basis of mutual understanding and trust.
He expressed his hopes that both countries would give high priority to economic cooperation as two-way trade turnover still remains modest, at around US $250 million in 2010.
Both sides should also need to work together to explore new fields for cooperation, the Vietnamese official added.

Deputy PM Trong pledged that the Vietnamese Government would do its best to prepare for the 29th meeting of the Viet Nam-Cuba Intergovernmental Committee, scheduled for Q4/2011 in Ha Noi.
He said he hoped Cuba would create favorable conditions for Vietnamese investors to invest in such fields as oil and gas exploitation, tourism, services and telecommunication.
Mr. Gladys Bejerano Portela described the visit by Deputy PM Trong as a milestone in the history of Viet Nam -Cuba relationship.
He expressed wishes that Cuba and Viet Nam would boost cooperation in agriculture, culture-education, sea-based economics, and food security.
The host also hoped that the Southeast Asian country would increase coordination with Cuba at international forums and share socio-economic development experience.

The same day, Deputy PM Truong Vinh Trong met with the Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz; member of Secretariat of CPC Central Committee and Head of its Department of International Relations Jose Ramon Balaguer; and attended the Viet Nam – Cuba Business Forum.
The Business Forum, co-organized by the chambers of commerce and industry of Viet Nam and Cuba, drew the participation of Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz and nearly 100 businesses from the two countries./.
