The volume of retail trade in euro zone 17 nations in June down by 0.5 percent as compared with May, according to a report published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union(EU), on Monday.
The month on month rate decreased 0.3 percent at the same time for the 27 members of the EU, excluding Croatia which became the 28th EU country on July 1, 2013.
Retail trade in June experienced 0.9 percent year-on-year decrease in eurozone while rose by 0.1 percent in the EU.
Among components of retail trade, "Food, drinks and tobacco" underwent a 0.6 percent increase both in the eurozone and the EU on a monthly base, while the non-food sector fell by 0.2 percent in the euro zone and remained stable in the EU.
With respect to annual changes, "Food, drinks and tobacco" fell by 1.6 percent in the euro zone and by 1.2 percent in the EU. The non food sector fell by 0.2 percent in euro zone but rose by 1.2 percent in the EU.
The report shows that among the EU member nations, 10 saw m-o-m increase and 11 saw decrease. The largest decreases of retail trade occurred in Estonia (-3.3 percent), Hungary (-1.9 percent) and Austria (-1.7 percent), while the highest increases were observed in Malta (1.8 percent), Luxembourg (1.3 percent) and Denmark (1.2 percent).
