Singapore's retail sales in August fell 7.8 percent year on year, the Department of Statistics said Monday.
However, excluding motor vehicles, retail sales increased 1.4 percent.
On a month-on-month basis, the retail sales in August rose by 3. 6 percent. The growth was 3.3 percent excluding motor vehicles. Sales of motor vehicles grew by 5.5 percent, in comparison with a drop of 19.7 percent in July.
Sales of recreational goods in August jumped 20.2 percent month on month, while sales of apparel and footwear increased 13.5 percent. Retail sales of telecommunications apparatus and computers decreased 1.5 percent.
Sales of food and beverage services decreased marginally by 0.1 percent in August on a month-on-month basis. On a year-on-year basis, the sales of food and beverage services rose 2.9 percent in August.
