Expressing satisfaction over 65 years of all-around bilateral cooperation, the two leaders agreed to hold a series of events celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties, including photo exhibitions, film screenings and art troupe exchanges.

They also said economic-trade and investment links should be brought to par with their potential. The Inter-Governmental Committee on Viet Nam-Czech Republic Economic Co-operation has been an effective mechanism that will continue facilitating connections in infrastructure, energy, telecommunications, public transportation, agricultural mechanical engineering, electric and medical equipment, construction materials and food processing, and other areas, they said.

Both leaders also agreed on boosting links in education and training, national defence and security, science and technology and culture, sports and tourism.

The Vietnamese leader asked the Czech Republic to continue supporting Viet Nam 's projects in environmental protection, afforestation, community health care, insurance system reform and hospital construction with official development assistance (ODA).

He also thanked the host leaders and authorities for their support to Vietnamese nationals living in the country. He expressed confidence that the Vietnamese community would continue serving as a bridge between the two nations.

President Zeman emphatically stated that as an active member of the European Union (EU), the nation backs strengthening of ties between Viet Nam and the EU.

He confirmed that the Czech Republic has ratified the EU-Viet Nam Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Co-operation (PCA) and pledged to hasten the EU for early approval.

Zeman also vowed to push for speedy signing of the Viet Nam-EU Free Trade Agreement and recognising Viet Nam as a market economy.

Discussing international and regional issues of shared concern, including East Sea developments, both leaders agreed that disputes should be settled by peaceful means in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). This would foster peace, stability, maritime and aviation safety and freedom in the region, they said.

During his four-day (May 10- 13) visit, the President will attend the Viet Nam economic-tourism cooperation forum, the opening ceremony of the Viet Nam Culture Year 2015, and the inauguration of the Vietnam News Agency's representative office in Prague./. — VNS
