The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has pledged to sponsor US$4.17 million in aid to help Viet Nam enhance its capacity to cope with natural disasters.
The aid will go to the second phase of an on-going project due to start in September 2013 and last three years.
It aims to improve water-related disaster prevention through integrated flood management systems.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) Hoang Van Thang said the project finalizedthe first phase withpractical results.
Its community-based disaster management models have has developed better technology for preventing river bank bursts.
JICA will work with the MARD, relevant agencies, and local authorities in Thua Thien-Hue, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh provinces to realize the second phase of the project./.
