The 10th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2017 began in Singapore on October 23, drawing global energy leaders to discuss how to innovate and analyse energy solutions.

The event includes conferences and exhibitions, including the Singapore Energy Lecture, Singapore Energy Summit, Asia Clean Energy Summit Conference and Exhibition, and SIEW Thinktank Roundtables.

Addressing the energy lecture, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean said energy forms the backbone of a robust and vibrant economy that creates wealth for society and good jobs for people in Singapore, and efforts from all sectors will help accelerate energy transition, and provide clean electricity to support growth.

On energy efficiency, the Deputy PM said that Singapore will implement a carbon tax from 2019, under which those who emit the most greenhouse gases will be taxed at higher levels.

The measure is hoped to encourage all sectors to reduce their emissions and improve energy efficiency. He added that revenue from the carbon tax will help fund measures to help companies reduce their emissions./.
