Vientiane (VNA) - A company from the Republic of Korea (RoK) has pledged to fund the construction of a road in Xanasomboun district, Champassak province of Laos.
An agreement to this effect was signed in Champassak province last week between the Director of the provincial Department of Public Works and Transport, Dr Koung Souk-aloun, and the Chairman of Khs Dragon mining company, Mr Kim Dong Man, the Vientiane Times newspaper reported on December 4.
The assistance provided by the Khs Dragon mining company is in line with the government's policy for rural development and poverty reduction to remove Laos from the UN's list of least developed countries by 2020. The project will start this month and will be complete by June 2010. It is expected to boost commercial agriculture production and alleviate poverty in the area.
The Khs Dragon company is a foreign-owned firm under the parent companies of Seodong and Hyodong Development Company, which are conducting mining surveys in Dor village, Kham district, Xieng Khuang province.
