Laos has agreed to allow a Thai company to build a new hydropower plant at Thad-Saland waterfall in Sepone district, Savannakhet province, said Laos news agency (KPL).
The signing of the project was held in Vientiane early this week between Lao Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Thongmy Phomvisay and President of the Thai Hydropower Construction Company Ounada Pheutrinarakone.
The wholly Thailand-owned project has a total investment of 225 million baht (over 6.4 million USD).
The plant is designed to have a capacity of 3.2 megawatts and will be completed after two years under construction.
After completion in 2011, the project will provide electricity not only for local people but also for the projects in the Sepone and nearby districts, the KPL added.
