Vietnam welcomes the Japanese Government’s decision to resume official development assistance (ODA) provision for Vietnam and its commitment to provide the country with 900 million USD in ODA in the 2009 fiscal year, Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung said on Feb, 24.
Dung made the statement while answering correspondents’ queries about Vietnam’s response to Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone’s statement on the issue on Feb. 23.
He said that Japan’s ODA has helped Vietnam implement important socio-economic projects and facilitated Japanese enterprises’ operation in the country, helping boost bilateral ties towards a strategic partnership as agreed by the two countries’ leaders.
This decision is the result of the close cooperation between the two governments in preventing ODA-related corruption and strengthening the effective use of Japan’s ODA in Vietnam, the spokesman said.
