PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng will attend the 14th ASEAN Summit scheduled from February 27 to March 1 at beach resort town of Hua Hin in Prajuabkirikhan Province, Thailand.
Under the theme "ASEAN Charter for ASEAN peoples”, the 14th Summit takes place in the context that ASEAN is transforming itself toward the ASEAN Community by the year 2015 and running on the basis of the recently approved ASEAN Charter.
ASEAN leaders plan to discuss ways to realize the Charter, cement and deepen the block’s internal linkages, and further promote cooperation between ASEAN and its partners.
Moreover, new emerging challenges like global financial crisis, energy security and natural disaster management, regional and international issues of common concern will also be part of the leaders’ agenda.
ASEAN leaders also expect to sign a number of key declarations and agreements.
Việt Nam always wants to speed up ASEAN's internal unification, especially the construction of the ASEAN Community and realization of the ASEAN Charter; further promote cooperation between ASEAN with partners, take advantage of the international community’s assistance for ASEAN goals.
“As an ASEAN member, Việt Nam wishes to effectively contribute to consolidating the ASEAN solidarity and unification, so as to ensure the association’s key role in protecting the regional peace, stability, cooperation and development", said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lê Dũng.
