ADB: Vietnam’s economy is on right track
During a press conference on Tuesday, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) revealed that the Vietnamese economy, despite impacts of the global economic recession, keeps performing well. With the expected GDP growth rates of 4.5% in 2009 and 6.5% in 2010, the country is still a promising destination for foreign investors.

ADB is optimistic about Việt Nam’s stable economic growth

According to ADB, those figures may be changed due to influences of the global economic situations and the government’s additional financial stimulus.
Nevertheless, in medium term, thanks to the sharp increase of FDI flow, there remains a strong possibility for GDP growth rate to reach 7-7.5%.
ADB Resident Country Director Ayumi Konishi suggested the Vietnamese Government speed up the economic reform, equitize State-owned enterprises, and open the domestic market wider in conformity with the country’s WTO commitments.
It is necessary to pay attention to job creation, assist small and medium enterprises and export-oriented industries, and back the poor and residents in disadvantaged areas.

ADB predicted that no crisis occurs in the national banking system in 2009 and the State Bank of Vietnam should keep endorsing flexible monetary policies.
