The fibre optic cable station linking Cambodia and Laos is expected to become operational in two weeks, Director of Cambodian Telecom Company (TelCam) Lao Saroeun said on April 2.
TelCam is awaiting approval from its Lao partner, the Lao Telecom Company, he added.
The fibre optic cable section is part of a project on developing a high-speed communication network linking five Mekong sub-region nations: Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
Cambodia has thus far connected with Thailand, Vietnam, and China, and soon plans to be connected to Myanmar and Laos.
Memorandums of Understanding on implementing the network in April were signed by the two countries’ post and telecommunications ministries and the two companies in January./.
