Vietnam’s rice exports in May are estimated to reach 710,000 tonnes, worth 350 million USD, bringing the total output of exported rice in the last five months to 3.2 million tonnes, a year on year increase of 43.15 percent, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
The output is worth 1.51 billion USD, an increase of 19.7 percent.
The Philippines continues to be the top rice importer of Vietnamese rice, making up nearly 47 percent of the value and 40 percent of the output, followed by Malaysia and Iraq.
MARD is working with every province to give guidance for the rest of this year's crops to ensure that enough rice is available for the market, reduce the level of losses and maintain the quality of rice for export.
According to the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development in provinces in the Mekong Delta region, both the extent and productivity of this year’s winter-spring crop has risen in most of the country’s rice growing areas.
