Laos and Vietnam have agreed to promote cooperation in the production of agriculture and forestry products.
The agreement was reached during last weekend meeting between Vietnamese Ministers of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat and Lao Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sitaheng Lasaphone in Champasak province.
Under the agreement, the two sides agreed to focus on joint production of agriculture and forestry products with priority to be given to management of rubber growing projects run by Vietnamese investors.
They also dealt with the creation of favourable conditions to attract more Vietnamese investors to projects on wood and farm produce processing in Laos as well as cooperation in planting industrial crops, particularly rubber trees.
Minister Sitaheng said that in the agro-forestry sector, Laos has attracted 39 projects, capitalised at a total of 107 million USD, from Vietnamese investors, 30 of which are underway, with the remainder awaiting licenses./.
