Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh, Prime Minister of the Lao PDR has asked all government members and provincial authorities to pay more attention to their obligations and duties in order to ensure the achievement of appropriate economic growth for 2009-2010.
PM Bouasone Bouphavanh who chaired the closing ceremony of the meeting between government and provincial governor end in Vientiane last week also advised that the ministries, government body and province needs to enhance fulfillment of their responsibilities and roles to fully implement agreed project. He also added that all leaders in the central and provincial level needed to encourage their staff and people to actively contribute to ensure economic growth at the pace of not less 7.5 percent next year.
The meeting opened on 18 August and closed on 20 August with a number of achievements. Issues raised during the meeting included challenges regarding land usage, resettlement of villagers, poverty reduction, preparations to fight flooding, alleviation of social problems and elimination of drug trafficking.
The meeting also discussed measures to deal with the global financial crisis and economic recession, and progress in preparations for SEA Games that Laos is set to host in December in Vientiane.
PM said that the important task to remain focused on was maintaining security in society to create confidence and a positive image of the nation for both Lao people and foreigners.
Ministry of planning and investment needed to issue an urgent decree to implement socio-economic development and budget plans in co-operation with the Finance Ministry.
PM advised sectors to increase efforts in addressing problems related to education, health, information and culture, and labour and social welfare.
He added closer surveillance was needed to ensure the best possible response to the possible pandemic of new influenza A(H1N1) virus and avian influenza.
