Addressing the plenary of the fourth Foreign Ministers Meeting of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) in Tokyo on Saturday, Vietnamese Deputy PM, FM Pham Gia Khiem called on FEALAC members to continue their cooperation and joint efforts for development, especially in the post-crisis period.

The Vietnamese Deputy PM asserted that, for the past ten years, FEALAC has helped East Asia and Latin America get closer.
He emphasized challenges faced by FEALAC members, especially negative impacts of the global economic crisis, climate change, food security, pandemics and poverty.
According to Deputy PM Khiem, East Asia and Latin America have great demand and potential for cooperation and this is a good precondition to make the forum effective and practical to meet the desire and interest of all the member countries.
FEALAC should guarantee its funds for cooperation programs and projects, mobilizing contributions from both big and potential member countries and international financial institutes like the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank (BID), stated the Vietnamese Deputy PM.

The same day, Deputy PM Pham Gia Khiem had a bilateral talk with Argentine FM Jorge Taiana, during which he asked the Latin American country to soon recognize Vietnam’s market economy.
Minister Taiana said the two countries should continue to increase bilateral cooperation through visits by leaders of both sides./.
