The delegates, including finance ministers, central bank governors, businesspeople and scholars, will discuss socio-economic situations in the world, then seek solutions to newly-arisen problems and adopt orientations for the future performance.
The event is also accompanied by some high-ranking meetings, including the ASEAN+3 Finance Ministers’ Meeting, which focus on measures to address risks and challenges to the long-term socio-economic development, to boost environmentally friendly and sustainable development, and cope with climate change.
At a press conference on May 28 in Hanoi, ADB General Secretary Robert Dawson said that the ADB meeting will offer opportunities to international donors and organizations to witness the achievements gained by Vietnam in terms of socio-economic development and poverty reduction.
Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Van Giau described the event a good chance for Vietnam to promote its image and cooperation potential.
Vietnam is now the 3rd biggest ADB loan receiver, after Bangladesh and Pakistan. As of late November 2009, ADB had funded 87 projects and programs in Vietnam to the tune of over US $8 billion.
In 2009 alone, the bank financed 8 projects with the total investment of nearly US $2 billion./.
