Singapore retail sales in April declined 2.6 percent compared to a year ago, official data showed on Tuesday.
Compared to April 2009, motor vehicle sales fell by 30.9 percent in April 2010. Retail sales of provision and sundry shops, recreational goods, food and beverages also declined by between 0. 6 percent and 3.2 percent, according to Singapore Department of Statistics.
However, this is offset by sales of petrol service stations, watches and jewelry, wearing apparel and footwear and medical goods and toiletries which recorded double-digit year-on-year growths of 11.6 percent to 17.2 percent.
Furniture and household equipment, department stores, telecommunications apparatus and computers, optical goods and books and supermarkets also grew by 1.3 percent to 9.8 percent during this period.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, retail sales dropped by 2.2 percent in April compared to the previous month./.
