Brazil's grain crop will reach 145.9 million tons in 2010, up 8.9 percent from the level in 2009, according to a study released Thursday by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
According to the study, the cultivated area in the country is to total 46.8 million hectares, down 0.9 percent from last year. The area cultivated with soybeans will increase 7.2 percent, while the areas cultivated with corn and rice will fall 6.7 and six percent respectively.
The production of soybeans and corn is expected to increase 19.4 and 4.4 percent, respectively, while rice production is to fall 10.4 percent.
