After five working days in the constructive atmosphere, mutual understanding and frank discussions, the 43rd ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meeting (AMM-43) and Related Meetings were wrapped up today in Hanoi with satisfactory outcomes, said Vietnamese Deputy PM Pham Gia Khiem.

Deputy PM, FM Pham Gia Khiem made the statement today in Hanoi at a press briefing after the closing ceremony of AMM-43 and Related Meetings.
These meetings, stated Deputy PM Khiem, attached much attention to discussions on five major issues which had been proposed by PMNguyen Tan Dung to speed up connectivity, promote external relations, maintain peace and security, beef up ASEAN’s centralityand enhance dialogues.
On the aspect of ASEAN community building, FMs agreed to accelerate the construction of the ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Blueprint in the 14 priority areas.
The FMs welcomed the accession of Canada and Turkey to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), reaffirmed the importance of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), and welcomed the Meeting of the ASEAN-China Joint Working Group on the implementation of the DOC.
At the Asian Region Forum (ARF), according to Deputy PM Khiem, the FMs spent time on seeking ways to cope with global threats while reaffirming that ARF is the key mechanism in the Asia-Pacific Region and adopting an action plan to realize ARF orientations by 2020.
Regarding to external relations, the FMs highlighted determination to put cooperation into practice in such fields as investment, finance and energy. Meanwhile, the partner countries pledged to support ASEAN to build community and advocated for ASEAN’s centrality.
ASEAN also agreed to take a more proactive role in guiding the future development of the ASEAN+3 and EAS mechanisms for strengthening the East Asia cooperation.
The FMs, said Mr. Khiem, welcomed the expressed interest of the Russian Federation and the United States to join the East Asia Summit (EAS).
In addition, the Ministers highly valued the participation of Vietnam, in her capacity as Chair of ASEAN in 2010, to the G-20 Summit in Canada from June 26-27.
The FMs also discussed the issues of Myanmar and the Korean Peninsula.
The AMM-43 and Related Meeting concluded with successful outcomes, specific measures and steps towards the building of community in the run-up to the 17th ASEAN Summit on October 28-30 in Hanoi.
Vietnam would continue to do her best in working closely with other ASEAN Member States to carry out the joint mission for the rest of the year of ASEAN Chairmanship and in the years to come, said Mr. Khiem./.
