Fukuoka’s Governor Wataru Aso briefed the guests the local situations and the prefecture’s flourishing ties with Vietnam’s localities in various fields.
Fukuoka is exporting to Vietnam mainly steel and means of transport. At least ten of its leading companies are doing investment in Vietnam. The number of tourists traveling between Ho Chi Minh City and Fukuoka has sharply increased.
In February 2008, Fukuoka and Hanoi inked a cooperation agreement on promoting economic, business and tourist exchanges.
The Vietnamese Party leader was pleased at Fukuoka’s efforts to deepen ties with Vietnam in conformity with agreements reached by senior leaders of the two countries as well as the Vietnam-Japan Joint Statement on building a strategic partnership.
The General Secretary emphasized that the opening of the Vietnamese General Consulate in Fukuoka will help to consolidate the relations between the prefecture and Vietnam’s localities as well as between the two countries.
