New impulse for closer ties between Vietnam and Russia
Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev have agreed to maintain frequent meetings of high-ranking leaders, strengthen political dialogues, and boost cooperative ties in different fields.

During the talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow on July 9, Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, who is on a State visit to the Russian Federation, affirmed Vietnam’s unchangeable policy of reinforcing and developing the fine traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Russia.
President Medvedev confirmed that Russia prioritizes the development of strategic partnership with Vietnam.
The leaders agreed to maintain frequent meetings of top leaders, strengthen political dialogues, frequently exchange views about bilateral and international issues, forge ties between the Communist Party of Vietnam and Russian political parties, and promote the bilateral traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation among their walks of life, especially youths.
They also pledged to instruct sectors and administrative bodies to strengthen trade and investment promotion, so that the two-way trade value can surge to US $10 billion in the coming years.

The two leaders pledged to expand cooperation in traditional fields, including oil and gas exploration, exploitation and processing, energy, machine manufacturing, mining, banking and telecommunications, and accelerate the signing of the Vietnam - Russia free trade agreement.
The Russian side showed their willingness to help Vietnam train cadres, including those for high technologies.
The two sides also agreed to beef up science and technology cooperation with focus on nanotechnology, information technology, biotechnology, new materials, non-traditional energies, and automation.
Mr. Medvedev appreciated the active role of Vietnamese people working and living in Russia in strengthening the bilateral economic, trade and friendly relations. He said Russia will create favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to live, study and work there.
Mr. Manh confirmed that Vietnam supports Russia’s efforts to ensure security and stability in the region and the world and fight against separatism.
Mr. Manh also met with Boris Gryzlov, Speaker of Russia's State Duma (the lower house of parliament), and Sergei Mironov, Speaker of the Federation Council (the upper house of the parliament)./.
