The Central Highlands economy recorded moderate sustainable growth in the first half of the year with GDP increasing by 12 percent year on year, reported the Central Highlands Steering Committee at its conference in Gia Lai province on July 13.
The conference also heard that considerable improvements were recorded in the living conditions of local people, especially in ethnic-inhabited areas, thanks to the government programme 134 that aims to provide ethnic people with housing, land for housing and production and safe water and programme 135 for socio-economic development for extremely poor communities.
The participants put forward solutions to achieve targets for the remaining half with a focus on maintaining political and social security and economic growth, increasing investment attraction and improving the living conditions in ethnic-inhabited areas.
The Central Highlands should also invest in road construction, speed up key construction projects and provide vocational training and job generation, they said.
Head of the Steering Committee Le Hong Anh, who is also Minister of Public Security, requested ministries, branches and localities attract investment and tap each region’s strength for sustainable development./.
